Do you really need to do it? But why?
Lets start by looking at what can happen underneath the lens of your ultrasound probe. Here is a picture of a phased array ultrasound probe with a tiny little cut in the corner and then the resultant corrosion on the acoustic array because it was not dealt with quickly:

So by ignoring the lens damage, fluid ingress will result which is a massive cross contamination hazard but also will damage the array which will then become a more expensive repair or result in the probe being non economical to repair.

In addition to the obvious cross contamination hazard, there is an electrocution hazard presented by a damaged lens. In this video we show a scenario with a double fault. The lens of the probe has a failure and so does the ultrasound machine. Glad this was in a controlled environment and not on a patient!
